A-LEVEL RESULT SUCCESS FOR YEAR 13

Posted: 16th August 2018

54% of all grades achieve A* – A at A-level

Staff, students and parents at Surbiton High School are celebrating a fantastic year of A-level results for 2018. 54% of all grades achieved were A* – A grades, with 29 students achieving 3 A*/A grades, and 89% of all grades achieved were A* – B.

Surbiton High School’s Oxbridge results are the strongest on record this year with 10 students going on to read a range of subjects including Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE), History, Classics, Biology, Theology and Land Economy. Notably, three of the students (Georgina, Rose and Anna) secured their Oxbridge offers (Classics and History) whilst setting up, running and fundraising for the Sixth Form Classical Society’s Restoration Project of the Parthenon Frieze casts.

We are delighted that 84% of students have secured their place at the most competitive universities, including Oxbridge, Russell Group Universities, Times Top 10 Universities and Medical/Dental Schools. 87% of our students will be attending their 1st choice university and 40% are going on to study STEM subjects.

Of the many outstanding stories at Surbiton High School, Rose gained 4 A* in French, Latin, Greek and History. Kanako joined the School speaking limited English and has gone on to become the Principal in the Surbiton Symphony Orchestra and String Chamber Ensemble and has now secured a place at Cambridge to read Land Economy, a fascinating degree combining economics, law and the environment. Anna achieved her Cambridge place to read History whilst also being a member of the National Youth Chamber Orchestra. Head Girl, Tamara who has made significant contributions to the School’s drama productions has gained excellent grades and is going on to Leeds University. Sacha, who won the ZSL Prince Philip Award and Marsh Prize in 2017 has secured a place at King’s College London. Becca has achieved 1 A* and 2 As whilst coaching U11 netball and playing for the School team.

Rebecca Glover, Principal of Surbiton High School, congratulated students, saying: “These are a tremendous set of results and the girls should be extremely proud of their achievements. The staff, students and all those involved in supporting the girls have worked very hard to ensure the best possible outcomes.”
