We are delighted to share that Surbiton High School has been commended in the Independent Schools of the Year Awards 2026 for its exceptional Performing Arts provision.
The Independent Schools of the Year Awards celebrate excellence across the independent education sector, with a record number of nominations received this year. To be recognised among so many outstanding schools is a wonderful achievement and reflects the exceptional experiences our pupils enjoy every day.
Performing Arts is a vibrant and integral part of life at Surbiton High School. Whether performing on stage, composing original music, working behind the scenes or leading younger pupils in rehearsal, our pupils are encouraged to be ambitious, creative and collaborative.
Throughout the past year, pupils have performed in an impressive range of productions, concerts and performances, while also benefiting from opportunities to work with leading industry professionals and perform in renowned venues. Alongside these experiences, Sixth Form pupils have embraced new leadership roles, mentoring younger pupils and supporting productions as directors, technicians and creative collaborators.
These opportunities allow pupils to develop confidence, resilience and teamwork while nurturing a lifelong appreciation of the performing arts. They also reflect our commitment to providing an environment where every pupil can discover and develop their creative potential.
Mr Matthew Shoults, Principal of Surbiton High School, said:
“It is wonderful to see the commitment and creativity of our Performing Arts community recognised in this way. Every production, concert and performance is the result of countless hours of dedication from our pupils and staff, and I am continually inspired by their willingness to challenge themselves, support one another and strive for excellence. This commendation celebrates everyone who makes Performing Arts such a vibrant and valued part of life at Surbiton High School.”
We are incredibly proud of everyone who has contributed to this achievement and look forward to continuing to celebrate the creativity, talent and dedication that make Performing Arts such an important part of life at Surbiton High School.
