Girls’ Prep Eco Pledges Inspired by Attenborough

Posted: 9th October 2026

To mark Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday, the Eco Committee at the Girls’ Prep has been working hard to encourage the whole School to think about how we can better care for our planet.

With the help of a talented craftsman, Robert, they have created a collection of environmental pledges that you can now find proudly displayed around our playground. The pledges focus on some of the key environmental issues facing us today, including water consumption, electricity use, recycling and the sustainable choices we can make for the future.

Every year group was given the opportunity to contribute a pledge, with the girls thinking carefully about a promise they could make to help make our School more environmentally friendly.

The Eco Committee have played an important role throughout the project. They met to discuss their favourite designs and shared their ideas for the images and illustrations they wanted to see on each plaque. They also followed the project’s progress through video updates from Robert, giving them fascinating insight into how their ideas were transformed into the finished pieces. In fact, Robert was so taken with this project that his wife even sponsored us to have an extra one for free!

The completed plaques are now displayed around the playground, providing a daily reminder to our School community of the small actions we can all take to protect our planet.

With every year group making a pledge, the Eco Committee hopes these messages will inspire our School to turn their promises into action.
