Surbiton High School Crowned National Champions at English Schools Ski Finals!

Posted: 15th October 2025

Last weekend, the Surbiton High School Ski Squad delivered a phenomenal performance at the English Schools Ski Finals, showcasing their talent, teamwork, and tenacity across two thrilling days of competition.

Saturday: Age Group Races  The day kicked off with the younger skiers setting a strong pace. Our Cat 1 team (Prep) Emily, Hannah and Lewis placed 4th, with standout performances including Emily, who clocked the 7th fastest combined time out of 42 competitors. The Cat 2 team (Years 7–8), made up of Mia, Clara, Izzy, and Audrey, raced to a brilliant 3rd place finish, earning bronze and national recognition. Mia and Clara both placed in the top ten individually.

In the afternoon, the senior teams took to the slopes and dominated. The Cat 3 team (Years 9–10) Isa, Sophie, Talula, and Leia clinched 1st place, with Isa finishing as the fastest skier in her category. The Cat 4A team (Year 11+) Saskia, Immy, Rose, and Freya also took gold, while the Cat 4B team Elizabeth, Sophia, and Emma secured 6th. Freya T placed 3rd overall in her category, with Saskia Strong close behind in 6th.

Sunday: British Open Championships  Sunday saw both Surbiton teams compete in the British Open race. The A team (Immy, Saskia, Rose, Freya) earned a superb 2nd place, while the B team (Elizabeth, Talula, Sophia, Isa) finished 4th making them the highest-placed B team in the competition. With five Surbiton skiers in the top 15 and Freya T placing 2nd overall, both teams qualified for the British National Finals in Swadlincote this November. Surbiton High is the only school with two teams qualifying; an incredible achievement!

A Team Effort  The squad’s energy and spirit were unmatched, with Surbiton being the loudest and most supportive team on the slope. Huge thanks go to Miss Slater and Mr Greenwood for their expert coaching and encouragement. The captains and vice-captains, Emma, Freya and Elizabeth, praised the team’s sportsmanship, resilience, and camaraderie throughout the weekend.

Congratulations to all our skiers for representing Surbiton High School with pride and excellence. You’ve made us all incredibly proud!
