Surbiton High School Celebrates 140 Years at the House of Lords

Posted: 12th December 2024

On 5 December 2024, the prestigious Cholmondeley Room and Terrace in the House of Lords was abuzz with excitement as over 180 former pupils and staff of Surbiton High School gathered to celebrate the School’s remarkable 140-year history. The event was hosted by The Rt Hon Baroness of Cotes, better known as Nicky Morgan, who was also a former Head Girl of the School.

The atmosphere was electric as alumnae and staff reconnected, sharing memories and stories from their time at Surbiton High School. The Baroness, who took to the podium to address the attendees, found it challenging to keep the enthusiastic crowd quiet, a testament to the joy and excitement that filled the room.

In her speech, Baroness Morgan reflected on the School’s rich history and its commitment to providing quality education. She highlighted the achievements of its pupils and the lasting impact the School has had on their lives. The evening was not just a celebration of the past, but also a look forward to the future, with many expressing their hopes and aspirations for the continued success of Surbiton High School.

Hannah Horwood, Acting Principal, also took the opportunity to thank everyone for joining the celebration. She reminded the attendees of the significant role they play in impacting current pupils through career talks, work experience, and supporting the Green & Silver Bursary campaign.

The event was a resounding success, leaving everyone with a renewed sense of pride and connection to their alma mater. As the evening drew to a close, the attendees left with fond memories and a shared commitment to supporting the School’s mission for many more years to come. Everyone departed with a special goodie bag of small gifts reminding them of the school motto, “May Love Always Lead Us.”
