Parents are exhausted. Modern family life has become a constant negotiation with technology that never switches off.

One more argument about putting the phone away.
For many families, the digital world has quietly shifted from being a useful tool to becoming the backdrop to childhood itself. Bedrooms glow long after lights out. Notifications interrupt conversations. Homework competes with TikTok, Snapchat and YouTube. Even moments that should feel calm are filled with distraction and pressure.
Beneath all of this sits a deeper anxiety for many parents: What is this doing to my child?
Children today are growing up in an environment no previous generation has experienced. Their confidence, friendships and sense of identity are increasingly shaped online. They are navigating platforms designed to keep them engaged for as long as possible, often at the expense of focus, sleep and emotional well-being.
At the same time, AI is rapidly changing the way young people learn, communicate and think. Parents are expected to guide children through technologies that are evolving faster than schools and society can comfortably keep pace with.
It is no surprise that so many families feel overwhelmed.
One of the biggest frustrations for parents is that conversations about devices quickly become conflict. Boundaries become battles. Screen time becomes a source of tension rather than balance. Parents often feel caught between wanting to protect childhood and recognising that technology is now deeply woven into education, friendships and future careers.
There is no perfect formula. No app or parental control can replace calm boundaries, consistent routines and open conversations. Children do not need adults to understand every platform, just to stay engaged and present.
Small changes can make a meaningful difference. Protecting sleep by removing devices overnight. Creating phone-free family time. Helping children understand how algorithms shape what they see online. Encouraging focus, boredom and real-world interaction again. These are not dramatic interventions, but they matter.
To help families navigate these challenges with greater confidence, Surbiton High School is hosting a special in-person event with Laura Knight, Founder of Sapio, one of the UK’s leading voices on artificial intelligence, digital strategy and online well-being.
Laura’s keynote will explore the realities of raising children in a digitally connected world, including the impact of AI, screen habits and online behaviour. Her approach is practical, balanced and reassuring, helping families feel informed rather than fearful.
Following the keynote, parents will take part in a series of practical workshops focused on real-world strategies that can be applied immediately at home. Sessions will include managing devices effectively, reducing friction around screen time, supporting healthier routines, improving focus and sleep, and helping children develop safer and more responsible digital habits.
This free event is an opportunity to hear expert insight, share experiences with other parents and leave feeling more confident about supporting children in a digital world that is evolving faster than ever before.
We warmly invite you to join us at Surbiton High School for this important evening with Laura Knight. Learn more and book this important event.
