The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity fundraise

Posted: 18th June 2024

On Sunday 12 May, my mummy and I took part in the five-mile walk to raise funds to transform the lives of cancer patients. The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity fundraise to support life-saving research and help ensure patients receive the very best treatment and care.

Each of the participants were provided with their own t-shirt, cap and a unique bib number. Additionally, we were also provided with a reflection panel where we could personalise it with our own reasons for taking part in the charity walk.

On the day, we were offered some yummy cereal bars as an energy booster. Ahead of the walk, we readied ourselves by doing a warm-up routine.

It was a bright and sunny morning, perfect for a walk. I was joined by a friend and we were super excited to participate. We started our walk at 11.00am and followed the trail set out on the map. Along the way, we passed water stations where we were given water and squash to keep us hydrated.

We crossed the finish line at 2.00pm to resounding cheers and applause from the onlookers. Each of us received our medal at the finishing line.

My favourite moments were when the cars driving along hooted for us as encouragement.

Together, mummy and I raised around £1,000 from generous donations from family, friends and mummy’s workplace.

It felt amazing to know that our small effort could make such a big difference. I can’t wait for the next charity walk and hope even more people join us next time. Helping out is fun, and it’s even better when you do it with friends.
