Young Enterprise – Kingston Market

Posted: 29th April 2024

After months of hard work, dedication and planning, Kingston Market was an incredible opportunity to gain real-life experience in selling and how to approach members of the public. Following successful fundraisers, we were all very eager to present our product – a pack of 52 mindfulness and well-being activity cards aimed at improving mental health and encouraging self-appreciation. We had 15 members of our team sell at the market throughout the day. It was great to have an aspect of friendly competition with the other Young Enterprise teams from the area and to speak with them about what product they have worked hard to create.

Although initially daunting, it quickly became much easier for us to approach members of the public and it was an incredibly rewarding experience to see so many people engaging and being interested in our product that we designed entirely ourselves, all the way from product development to manufacturing. This experience allowed us to develop many important skills such as perseverance, negotiation and teamwork.

Later in the day, we were able to pitch our product to a panel of three judges – all with experience in the industry of business and marketing. This was a really helpful experience as we were able to answer important questions about our product and the process of developing it. We were also given the opportunity to speak with the Mayor of Kingston. She was very interested in our activity cards and impressed by all the work that we had put into them.

As we approached the end of the day, we eagerly waited the judges’ results. We were extremely honoured to be awarded highly commended for ‘Best Product’. This was an outstanding achievement which the whole team was very proud of. It was extremely rewarding to be recognised for all our perseverance and dedication. Overall, we had a very successful and enjoyable day at the market, selling 30 packs of cards to the public.
