Surbiton High School’s J16 8+ crew delivered an outstanding performance on Saturday at the Junior Inter Regional Regatta in Nottingham, representing the Thames London West region against the strongest crews from across the United Kingdom.
They competed against the fastest opposition from the other 11 regions in the UK, including their main rivals from Headington School, Oxford and Wallingford Rowing Club. The crew produced an exceptional display of determination and teamwork throughout the competition.
After securing second place in the time trial, the Surbiton High School rowers produced an impressive performance in the final. In a thrilling race, they found an extra surge of speed in the closing stages to take victory by half a length ahead of Headington School and Wallingford Rowing Club, winning gold for Thames London West.
Their success also contributed to the Thames London West Junior Women’s team achieving second place overall across all boat classes.
The victorious crew was made up of Ellie C (bow), Lilly S(2), Sienna H (3), Olivia P (4), Emilia L-T (5), Nia T (6), Izzy S (7), Sophie M.D (stroke) and Grace L (cox).

This remarkable achievement reflects the pupils’ dedication, resilience and ability to balance the demands of high-level rowing alongside their academic studies and wider commitments at Surbiton High School.
Congratulations to all involved on this excellent accomplishment.
