Our Year 6 Diploma has provided a purposeful and enriching programme, carefully designed to support the boys as they prepare for the transition to senior school while broadening their learning beyond the 11+ examinations. Through a diverse range of experiences, the Diploma has encouraged independence, confidence and curiosity, ensuring the boys leave Year 6 both proud of what they have achieved and excited for what lies ahead.
Central to the programme has been a strong focus on personal development. The boys took part in a Junior Citizenship workshop, developing their understanding of responsibility, community and the wider world. Alongside this, they prepared and delivered speeches in our “Surbiton Speaks” project, investing in their public speaking skills and learning to communicate clearly, confidently and with impact.
Practical life skills have also played an important role. Through a Bikeability course, the boys gained confidence and competence riding safely on the roads, an important step towards independence as they grow older. Educational visits further enriched their learning, with trips to London proving a particular highlight. A visit to the Churchill War Rooms brought their study of World War Two vividly to life, while a trip to the Twist Museum allowed them to explore illusions, perception and mathematical drawing in an engaging and thought‑provoking way.
To cap off the year and celebrate their time at the School, the boys worked tirelessly on their production of Aladdin Jr. The final performances were an absolute triumph, showcasing teamwork, creativity and confidence, and providing a fitting and joyful conclusion to an outstanding Year 6 Diploma journey.
