Surbiton High School Scholar Secures Spot at Prestigious Italia Conti Conservatoire

Posted: 12th February 2024

Surbiton High School is delighted that one of our Year 13 Performing Arts Scholars, Edie, has successfully auditioned for a brand-new, three-year course, ‘BA Acting (Musical Theatre) at the prestigious Italia Conti Conservatoire.

If you have enjoyed attending the large number of Performing Arts events produced by Surbiton High School over the past few years, Edie would have been hard to miss onstage.

Edie is an exceptional A-Level Drama student who has performed in many roles for us over the years. She first gained a role in the ensemble for our annual musical in 2018’s ‘Wind in the Willows’ She only had one other role in the ensemble with 2019’s ‘Chicago’ before gaining the female Lead of Audrey in 2021’s ‘Little Shop of Horrors’.

During her time in Sixth Form, Edie played love interest Emmitt in ‘Legally Blonde’ and last year blew the audience away as the lovable tragic, fallen woman Nancy in ‘Oliver!’.

A grandmother of one of our pupils performing in ‘Oliver!’ played ‘Nancy’ in the first West End Revival of the show in the early 60s. When she came to the show, she commented that Edie was a sensational actor, singer, dancer, and musical theatre talent.

Edie, like so many other pupils at Surbiton High, has a huge passion for musical theatre. Edie is a keen all-round talent – attending Stagecoach outside of school, singing festivals, as well as gaining lead roles in our Senior Drama Company Productions – ‘Marion’ in Jim Cartwright’s ‘Two’ and ‘Piggy’ in Nigel Williams’ adaptation of ‘Lord of the Flies’ as well as all the Surbiton Musical theatre cabaret events.

We are so proud of Edie’s achievements, and Italia Conti will be lucky to have her.
