At the beginning of the Easter holidays, a group of Year 9 and Year 10 pupils set off on a captivating journey to Freiburg, nestled in the heart of the Black Forest in Germany. The trip offered a blend of cultural immersion, linguistic enrichment and unforgettable experiences.
Highlights included a cable car ride to the summit of Schauinsland, offering panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, followed by a tranquil boat trip across the picturesque waters of Lake Titisee. Pupils also enjoyed time exploring the bustling streets of Freiburg, where they had the opportunity to practise their German while browsing the shops and sampling local delicacies. A lively evening of bowling added to the fun!
A particularly enriching moment came with a visit to Surbiton High School’s partner school in Lörrach. Pupils were warmly welcomed by their German peers and had the chance to experience a typical day in a German school setting, further developing their intercultural understanding and global perspective.
Throughout the trip, pupils consistently engaged in real-life conversations in German, helping to strengthen their language skills while building confidence and independence. It was a memorable week that not only brought language learning to life but also fostered lasting friendships and a deeper appreciation of German culture.
