Pankhurst House Triumphs in Public Speaking Grand Final

Posted: 27th February 2025

After six weeks of rigorous preparation, the highly anticipated Lower School Public Speaking Grand Final took place in front of a captivated audience. From an initial 540 participants, just seven teams remained—each representing the finest public speakers from Key Stage 3.

The atmosphere in the Main Hall was electric as 21 finalists took to the stage, supported by nine presenters, 14 House Leaders, and five esteemed judges, including three past winners. Our principal, Mr Shoults gave a thoughtful and stirring reflection on the value of public speaking in today’s world. While Year 7 and Year 9 watched live in the Main Hall, Year 8 followed the event via livestream in the Upper Hall.

The competition showcased an impressive array of topics, but it was Pankhurst House that ultimately claimed victory and raised the Rt.Hon. Baroness Nicky Morgan Cup. Camilla delivered an exceptional speech on ‘Over-Consumption,’ earning widespread acclaim for her eloquence and conviction.

The Grand Final was a true testament to the intelligence, confidence, and articulation of Surbiton High School pupils, reinforcing the event’s core message: Your Voice Matters.
