Prep Schools Attend Swimming Gala

Posted: 10th February 2025

Recently, both the Surbiton High Girls’ Prep and Boys’ Prep Schools participated in an exciting swimming gala, where they raced courageously against some highly talented swimmers. The event featured a variety of races, which demonstrated the pupils’ remarkable resilience and teamwork. After some intense competition, four talented swimmers proudly secured an impressive 3rd place finish, and are moving on to finals.

We caught up with some of the pupils who participated in the event to hear about their experiences and thoughts. This event highlighted the seamless integration between our Schools, where both boys and girls supported one another in this thrilling competition.

Interview Highlights

Year 6 journalists from the Girls’ Prep interviewed pupils:

Q: Why did you want to take part?

Pupil A: At first, I didn’t, but my mum gave me the confidence to do so, and I found that I actually really enjoyed it and was glad I went.

Q: What did you enjoy the most?

Pupil A: I was able to swim my favourite style, breaststroke, and I found it fun because of the competitiveness.

Pupil B: I enjoyed competing against the other schools.

Pupil D: I enjoyed how much our team cheered each other on.

Q: What types of races did you do?

Pupil C: We did a medley relay, which is where you swim your strongest stroke. We came 3rd place in that. We also did a freestyle relay, where we swam freestyle.

Q: What surprised you about the gala, and did you learn anything new?

Pupil A: It was the first time I had taken part in a gala. However, there wasn’t much that surprised me as I had practiced before. Whilst I may not have learned anything new, it was all about trying something new.
