Mr King’s Reflection on the First Half Term

Posted: 15th October 2025

It’s hard to believe how quickly this half of term has flown by. There is always such a fun pace to life at the Boys’ Prep, and it has been wonderful to see so much on offer for our boys both inside and outside the classroom. I have thoroughly enjoyed being back – it is a special place with lots of energy and purpose.

The work and progress of our boys have been nothing short of inspiring. I have had countless visits to my office from teachers and pupils eager to share their successes, from our Reception pupils learning musical notation in their very first term, to our Year 1 boys proudly explaining their use of nouns and powerful adjectives over lunch, and our Year 2 mathematicians tackling complex word problems with growing confidence. Year 3 have produced phenomenal diary entries that far exceeded their teachers’ expectations, while our Year 4s have been completely absorbed in Kensuke’s Kingdom, discussing friendship, courage and survival with impressive maturity. Our Year 5 boys have even been grappling with the famous trolley problem, an ethical dilemma that has puzzled philosophers for decades, and at the top of the school, our Year 6s have crafted truly exceptional pieces of Dracula-inspired writing, all whilst diligently preparing for their 11+ exams.

At the heart of all this is our commitment to building strong, positive relationships. We pride ourselves on being a community where every boy is known, where expectations are clear, and where routines help them thrive. Every member of staff, from BASC to our admin team, teachers, and teaching assistants, contributes to this shared culture of care and purpose.

Sport and music continue to shine brightly too, with Year 3 boys proudly carrying cellos nearly as large as themselves, and countless fixtures giving our boys the chance to represent the school with enthusiasm and pride.

It has been a busy, joyful start to the year, and I could not be prouder of all that the boys have achieved this half of term.
