On Monday, 12 May, Year 2 boys enjoyed an exciting and educational trip to Windsor Castle, where they took part in an interactive workshop exploring the history of the world’s oldest inhabited castle. Through engaging activities, they discovered why Windsor was chosen as the location and how the castle evolved from a wooden fortress into a grand stone palace.
With the help of a knowledgeable guide, the boys learned how medieval weapons were used during sieges and how to tell when the Monarch is in residence. They also gained a fascinating insight into how the castle has changed over time.
Following the workshop, the boys toured the magnificent State Apartments and were captivated by the grandeur of St George’s Hall, particularly the colourful coats of arms and suits of armour. Outside St George’s Chapel, they discussed the significance of this royal burial site, where 11 monarchs, including Henry VIII, Charles I and Queen Elizabeth II, are laid to rest. A sighting of a King’s Guard standing to attention added to the excitement.
It was a truly memorable day that brought the rich history of Windsor Castle to life.
