Surbiton High Girls’ Prep Years 5 and 6 at the London Youth Games

Posted: 15th May 2024

Having won the borough netball tournament on Friday 23 February, the Year 5 and 6 netball team represented Kingston at the London Youth Games (LYG) on Thursday 21 March. We had an early start to travel to Redbridge Sports Centre, but the team was excited and ready to go.

A special mention to Eleanor E, Emma S, and Alice S who helped the team win the borough competition and qualify for the LYG but were away on the ski trip so couldn’t attend. Well done to Freya G and to Year 5 pupils, Orla W and Annabelle B, for stepping up to join the team.

The team started their pool games with a 3-3 draw against Hammersmith, followed by an impressive 7-1 win against Harrow. The next two games were tough, with a 2-0 loss against Camden and a 1-1 draw against Ealing (the LYG champions). After a fantastic pool round, the team narrowly missed out on a place in the cup competition and came third place in the pool.

The team still had the opportunity to play during the afternoon and demonstrated some excellent moments of play against Hounslow, Tower Hamlets, and Brent.
