In the morning of Saturday 16 September, the Surbiton Assembly Rooms was buzzing with over 30 university representatives and over 20 professionals from a range of careers. Approximately 500 pupils dropped in to speak to these university ambassadors about university life and courses, and get one-to-one advice on pursuing their career interests.
Universities included Bath, Durham, Lancaster, Liverpool, Manchester, Nottingham, Ravensbourne Royal Holloway, Sussex, Warwick and many more! We were also lucky to have our own Mr White giving information and advice on apprenticeships, the Royal Veterinary College, Brighton and Sussex Medical School and The Army speak to students about courses and careers, perhaps in areas that some pupils hadn’t even thought about.
Pupils, as well as parents, had the opportunity to talk to representatives from a wide range of careers, including marketing, human resources, psychology and journalism. This really was a great way to efficiently explore so many career options, asking professionals about their industry and its roles (the good and the bad!).
We welcomed around 100 students from local schools, including Hollyfield, Kingston Academy, Elms Academy, Hinchley Wood and Richard Challoner. It was wonderful to involve our local community in this event and this is just one of Surbiton High School’s outreach activities.
Universities commented on the great atmosphere and how inquisitive the pupils were. We would like to thank all the university ambassadors and professionals, many of which are parents of the School, for giving up their time and providing such invaluable information and advice. It was a busy morning, and we look forward to a bigger and better fair next year!
