Legally Blonde production at the New Wimbledon Theatre

Posted: 12th December 2022

The biggest audience ever to attend a Surbiton High School Musical saw the biggest set we’ve ever had, the most pink we’ve ever used and the most references to “love” that has ever been packed into two hours, during the incredible four-performance run of ‘Legally Blonde’ at the New Wimbledon Theatre in November.

The wonderful community spirit that makes this event so special was once again in evidence, as a cast of almost 100 pupils was supported by a band made up of 11 pupils along with members of staff, all helped out by a hardworking crew of pupils and staff backstage. Whilst the week was long and tiring, the performances produced were superb, leading to countless compliments from audience members who were bowled over by the professionalism on display.

With rehearsals only beginning in September, the company had to work incredibly hard to ensure that everything was prepared by the time that show week rolled around. Unlike previous musicals, large sections of ‘Legally Blonde’ are sung-through, which made rehearsals even more complicated than usual. But, the pupils involved rose to the challenge, performing flawlessly on each occasion.

Whilst there were some bumps along the way (with the dress rehearsal finishing less than an hour before the first performance), the positivity from every member of the company ensured that the audiences saw an incredible spectacle, with every pupil playing their part. The friendships and memories made will last for years, and whilst attention now turns towards November 2023 and the next show, everybody involved in ‘Legally Blonde’ should be so proud of what was achieved.
