Surbiton High School Cricket Club is the latest addition to the Super Eight Sports. With the recent successes of the England National team, interest in girl’s cricket has grown considerably at School. The main ethos of the Cricket Club is to provide a fun and enjoyable programme that helps to challenge and develop players of all ages and abilities.
Pupils can play cricket from Year 7 through to Year 13. Over this period, we aim to develop their skills and understanding of how to play the game.
Participation and Performance
Pupils will participate in cricket during core single PE lessons throughout the year and during Games lessons in the Summer Term. There are open extra-curricular clubs during the winter and summer which pupils can attend to receive additional coaching focusing on the fundamental skills of the game.
Our programme, use of local facilities and the latest equipment allow pupils to train to hard ball level and beyond. Players will receive all the support they require to achieve their highest goals.
Coaching Team
Stephen Pope, Head of Cricket is the newest member of the PE Department. Having played cricket professionally and taught PE at a number of schools in the UK and Kenya, Stephen is pleased to see how the sport is developing here at Surbiton High School.
Cricket is supported by the full time PE teachers at Surbiton High School. The staff are actively developing as cricket coaches, which has been well supported through recent training from the Surrey Cricket Foundation.
Facilities
We currently have two artificial wickets at our Hinchley Wood Sports Ground as well as an Astroturf and tennis courts for small-sided games and skill development. In November, we will be installing a three lane net system with roll out mats at the Oaken Lane Sports Ground.
We work closely with a number of cricket clubs for use of their grounds and facilities. Our development and performance squads will attend a winter programme at Esher High School with indoor nets taking place in the evenings during the Autumn and Spring Terms.
