Athletics

Athletics and cross-country running are open to all students at Surbiton High School, with all students participating in a block of lessons from Years 7 to 9 and as an option in Year 10. In addition, senior students can participate at club and County Level if they wish and co-curricular clubs are open to all. We train all year round at our local track, employing a specialist athletics coach, with Running Club operating throughout the year with the help of a group of dedicated teachers who are also competitive runners.

Athleticism running, jumping and throwing are the foundation for all sports and a positive early start underpins a lifetime of physical activity and helps to prevent injury by learning good form and technique. We follow England Athletics 365 and Schools Athletics, run, jump, throw in our lessons and coaching.

Achievements

We achieve success at local, Borough, Regional and County level and have one former pupil in the Great Britain Athletics Team. We have links with Kingston and Poly Athletics Club, however students are also encouraged to join their local club. Several of our pupils compete for their Borough in the London Mini-marathon each year.
