Charity, House System & Leadership

BOYS’ PREP HOUSE SYSTEM

The House System is a vital aspect of School life at Surbiton High Boys’ Prep School. Each boy belongs to one of three Houses: Arundel, Balmoral, or Caernarvon.

HOUSE SYSTEM

There are a number of competitions across the year in which the boys compete against each other while representing their House. These contests may vary each term.

House Captains

Each House is led by a team of House Captains. The Year 6 boys are given the opportunity to put themselves forward as the most eligible candidates to lead their House to victory. The elected captains are responsible for leading their House for the rest of the year.

House Points

Throughout each term, all the boys in the School are keen to receive House points that go towards the weekly totals.  On an individual basis, boys also receive awards of bronze, silver, gold and platinum to celebrate their hard work and exemplary behaviour.

CHARITIES

At Surbiton High Boys’ Preparatory School, we actively encourage and support boys to participate in a range of fundraising activities. Numerous fundraising events are held and celebrated throughout the year, reinforcing the School’s value of ‘Community’. This sense of personal connection helps the boys develop empathy, broaden their awareness of the world around them, and recognise the impact their actions can have.

At the start of the academic year, all boys are given the opportunity to nominate a charity for the School to support over the course of a term. We try, wherever possible, to ensure that the charity has some relevance to the pupils, staff or parents in our community. This helps the boys feel a genuine sense of ownership and connection to the causes we support, making the fundraising experience more meaningful and impactful.

SCHOOL COUNCIL

Every term, a representative from each form is elected to the School Council. We hold two meetings, one for Years 1 to 3 and one for Years 4 to 6.

The School Council meet weekly, with a designated member of staff, to discuss the views of the class, including both concerns and suggestions. Notes are taken from each meeting and are shared with the Senior Leadership Team to highlight the issues around the School, and to discuss any actions taken, receiving valuable feedback.

The members of the School Council help with many charity events, through both the organisation and the running of the actual events.
