Adverse Weather Conditions Policy

The School will always remain open unless you are informed otherwise.

  • Please take great care travelling to and from the School
  • Please ensure appropriate footwear is worn to cope with the conditions. Ideally, a change of footwear should be brought into School

In the event of a severe weather warning that may affect the School’s normal opening hours, the following procedures will be put in place:

  • Any decision to close the School will be made by 6.30am after an assessment of the School grounds
  • Once the decision has been made by the Principal to close the School, a text message will be sent to all parents
  • School closure will also be posted on a red banner on the front page of the website www.surbitonhigh.com and posted on social media channels
  • The website will be updated throughout the day as necessary (you will need to refresh your browser if you stay logged on to the website)
  • The School phone will be manned from 7.30am for telephone enquiries
  • Staff will be in the School, manning the telephones and to greet any pupils who might not have got the message and arrived at School

What happens if the weather deteriorates during the school day?

  • The School will only close in the event of severe deterioration in weather conditions. The decision will be made by the Principal
  • Parents will be informed of any early closure via text message to all parents and website and social media channel updates
  • Pupils will be permitted to text parents
  • Wherever possible, we will arrange for the School buses to come early
  • Pupils who are normally collected from the School will be instructed to contact parents for advice on what to do
  • Pupils walking home will be advised to walk in groups
  • The School will be kept open and appropriately staffed until the last student has left the building. Please note staff are unable to give lifts to pupils
