The Senior School hosted a Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) conference that brought together MFL teachers from Surbiton High School and colleagues from 20 neighbouring schools. The aim of the day was to explore practical strategies for teaching some of the new skills assessed in the new MFL GCSE specifications.
The workshop was led by Silvia Bastow, a subject leader and publisher. She guided us through some of the key changes in the new GCSE as well as the implications for teaching. The day concluded with a group reflection on A-level languages facilitated by the MFL Department at Surbiton High School. This closing discussion encouraged thoughtful dialogue about the future of languages beyond GCSE. Beyond its academic value, the conference offered a wonderful opportunity to form new partnerships with other schools in order to share ideas and organise future joint events for both staff and pupils.
