Kingston Borough Swimming Gala

Posted: 23rd January 2026

Our Prep School swimmers were truly outstanding at the recent Kingston Borough Swimming Gala, and we could not be prouder of both their achievements and the exemplary way they represented the school. Throughout the day, they were repeatedly praised by event staff for their excellent behaviour and sportsmanship, and were even singled out specifically for this – a wonderful reflection of our school values.

Millie, Jemima, Hannah and Lizzie from Surbiton High Girls’ Prep all swam brilliantly in their individual events, delivering strong performances in very competitive heats. Highlights included Lizzie winning her heat in the 25m butterfly, Millie finishing 2nd in her 25m front crawl heat, Jemima placing 3rd in the 25m backstroke heat, and Hannah securing 5th place in the 25m breaststroke heat.

In the boys’ competition, Kiran P, Austin, Charlie and Nate from Surbiton High Boys’ Prep all made their individual stroke finals against strong competition. Notable achievements included Kiran securing 1st place in his breaststroke heat, Austin 2nd place in his frontcrawl heat, Charlie 2nd in his butterfly heat and Nate placing 3rd in a tight backstroke heat.

The relay teams were particularly impressive. The girls dominated the heats, winning both the front crawl relay (by a clear margin) and the medley relay. In the finals, they showed fantastic resilience and teamwork in extremely tough races, finishing 4th in the front crawl relay after a superb fight back, and claiming silver medals in the medley relay.  The boys also had a strong performance in their relay heats, reaching the final for both the front crawl and medley relays. They showed real team spirit in very competitive finals, finishing 4th in the front crawl relay and 5th in the medley relay.

Individual finals also brought excellent results, with Millie finishing 5th and Austin 6th in the front crawl final, Jemima placing 4th and Nate 6th in the backstroke final, Kiran winning a silver medal in the breaststroke final, and Charlie placing 5th in the butterfly and Lizzie winning a silver medal in her butterfly final – narrowly missing out on gold in an incredibly close race.

In the squad event, a combined team of boys and girls competed against 10–11 strong teams in very challenging heats. Finishing 5th overall, this was an excellent all-round team performance that showcased determination, commitment and fantastic teamwork from everyone involved.

Several of our girls and boys returned home with well-deserved medals. Their performances, effort and behaviour were outstanding throughout the competition, and they were a credit to the school. A huge congratulations to all our swimmers – we are extremely proud of you!
