Year 3 girls enjoyed a fantastic and thought-provoking visit to Fulham Palace, guided by two key questions: who might have lived here, and why choose this particular location? The girls examined genuine Roman artefacts discovered on site and were intrigued to find evidence not of soldiers or battles, but of everyday life — jewellery, statues, farming tools, and beautifully decorated platters. Dressing up in Roman clothing proved a highlight, and the girls channelled their creativity into poems dedicated to the goddess Minerva and the Roman Emperor Septimius Severus, who is believed to have visited the villa. A final stop in the museum revealed the wide range of objects uncovered from many different civilisations, helping the girls appreciate how artefacts offer vital clues for historians piecing together life in the past.
