MUN Conference

Posted: 21st November 2025

Participating in the RGS MUN conference allowed us to discuss and debate different areas of current global politics, working together with other ‘delegates’ in order to find effective solutions. As Surbiton, we represented Russia across a variety of councils, such as women, EcoSoc,  and health.

We each pre-researched our specific topic and came up with resolutions to our designated issues. It was really interesting to understand other countries’ viewpoints and struggles, and then debate them, representing their assigned countries’ interests rather than our own.

We developed many skills both on the day and in preparation, such as effective communication, tactical questioning, quick thinking and public speaking. We found that many topics of discussion overlapped with lessons at school, for example unemployment crisis and post-COVID economies applied to economics, business and geography and in the historical security council, we touched upon topics covered in History GCSE. Overall, we had a great time and look forward to our next conference at Benedon!
