On Tuesday, 4 November, Reception had a very special and exciting visit from our local firefighters as part of our topic, People Who Help Us. The children were thrilled to welcome the crew and learn all about the incredible work they do to keep everyone safe. The firefighters arrived in their bright red fire engine, which immediately caught everyone’s attention as it pulled into the School grounds.
The children were invited to take a closer look at the fire truck and explore the many tools and pieces of equipment stored inside. The firefighters patiently explained what each item was used for – from the heavy hoses that spray water to the helmets, and protective gear that keeps them safe while tackling fires. The children were fascinated to see how everything had a special purpose.
They also had the exciting opportunity to see the firefighters in action. The crew demonstrated how the hose works. They turned on the loud siren and flashing lights, which caused great excitement. Each child also had the chance to climb inside the cab of the fire engine, discovering what it might feel like to be a real firefighter on a call.

Throughout the visit, the firefighters spoke to the children about fire safety, explaining what to do in an emergency and how important it is to stay calm and call for help. The children listened carefully and asked lots of thoughtful questions, showing real curiosity and enthusiasm.
The visit provided a wonderful, hands-on learning experience that brought the topic of People Who Help Us to life. It helped the children understand the bravery, teamwork, and dedication involved in being a firefighter, and the vital role they play in protecting our community. The day was filled with excitement, learning, laughter, and plenty of big smiles – a day that everyone will remember for a long time!
