Celebrating Community and Culture at the International Coffee Morning

Posted: 17th October 2025

The School’s annual International Coffee Morning once again brought warmth, connection, and celebration to our community, as parents of EAL (English as an Additional Language) pupils gathered to meet one another and the dedicated teaching team who support their children.

This year’s event was made even more special by the involvement of our pupils. Year 6 boys and a Senior Year 8 pupil took on the role of Welcome Ambassadors, greeting parents with enthusiasm and using their language skills to learn more about our guests. Their friendly introductions and encouragement to enjoy the delicious refreshments set a welcoming tone for the morning.

The EAL team delivered a short presentation outlining their roles and how lessons are tailored to suit the age and needs of each pupil. However, the heart of the event was all about the pupils themselves – showcasing their talents and encouraging parents to engage with the team and one another. It was a wonderful opportunity for families to feel truly part of the School community.

Pupils from across the three Schools shared speeches about their experiences at Surbiton High School, offering personal insights and fascinating facts aligned with this year’s theme: British Food. Prep School children delighted the audience with poems and reflections on their favourite (and not-so-favourite) British dishes, while Senior pupils added a touch of elegance with musical recitals that created a relaxed and joyful atmosphere.

The morning concluded with a lively online quiz that sparked laughter and interaction among parents, followed by informal conversations over a spread of classic British treats. Thanks to our catering team, guests enjoyed Victoria Sandwich Cakes, Eccles Cakes, Flapjacks, and fresh British strawberries – a fitting end to a truly heartwarming event.

The International Coffee Morning continues to be a cherished tradition, celebrating diversity, fostering connection, and highlighting the vibrant contributions of our pupils.
