On Saturday 21 June, the Surbiton High School Ski Teams defied soaring temperatures to deliver a sensational performance at the London Schools Ski Race, bringing home a host of top trophies and showcasing both skill and team spirit.
Competing under clear skies and in sweltering conditions, the Prep teams kicked off the day with a fantastic showing. With some pupils racing for the very first time, both the Category 0 Mixed and Category 1 Girls teams secured Silver medals. Their outstanding efforts also earned Surbiton High School the coveted ‘Overall Best London School’ Trophy for the morning session; a tremendous achievement and a proud moment for our younger skiers.
As the afternoon rolled in, so did the Senior teams, just as cloud cover and a welcome spot of rain provided some brief relief from the heat. Racing in Categories 2, 3 and 4, our Senior pupils put on a thrilling display of determination and speed. In the fiercely contested head-to-head duel team races, Surbiton High School impressively knocked out the Reeds all-boys team in the semi-finals before storming to victory in the final.
By the end of the day, the Senior teams had swept the board with outstanding results:
- Category 2 – Silver
- Category 3 – Gold
- Category 4 – Gold
- Fastest Girl Trophy
- Overall Best London School Trophy
- Overall Best School Trophy
These results reflect the dedication and resilience of every team member, from first-time racers to seasoned competitors.
A huge congratulations to our Prep Ski Team: Mia LV, Clara J, Emily L, Hannah H, Lewis R and Tessa L, and our Senior Ski Team: Isabella W, Sophie J, Audrey B, Freya T, Saskia S, Immy M, Rose J, Talula E, Sophia C, Emma L and Amy-Rose E.
Well done to all for representing Surbiton High School with such skill, courage and composure, especially on the hottest day of the year so far!
