The Year 5 girls had a truly enriching experience during our visit to the Shinnyo-en Buddhist Centre in Long Ditton. The centre’s warm and friendly atmosphere was felt from the moment we arrived, with kind staff on hand to guide us through the various aspects of Buddhist teachings and practices. The centre’s serene setting, with its beautiful gardens and tranquil prayer hall, provided a perfect backdrop for our exploration of mindfulness and spiritual reflection.
The highlight of the visit was a short, peaceful meditation session led by a knowledgeable instructor. The girls listened attentively as they learned simple breathing techniques and ways to focus their minds, which proved to be both calming and enjoyable. The session helped the girls understand the importance of inner peace and mindfulness in everyday life, and many found it surprisingly relaxing. Following the meditation, we had a chance to ask questions and learn more about Buddhist symbols, rituals, and the centre’s peaceful philosophy.
Overall, the visit was both informative and enjoyable, offering the girls a deeper understanding of Buddhist practices and values. They appreciated the opportunity to experience a different cultural and spiritual perspective in a calm and friendly environment. The combination of engaging discussions, a peaceful meditation, and the beautiful surroundings made the afternoon a memorable and meaningful learning experience for everyone involved.
