The walls in Surbiton High Girls’ Prep School have recently had an exciting makeover during the winter holiday. Each floor has a different design – on the ground floor there is a stunning wall with an image of a bookshelf bursting with different characters and stories; on the second floor there is an uplifting message to everyone, helping those who see it develop their resilience; on the third floor, there is an educational wall filled with many inspirational people who had a job relating to STEM. Finally, next to the music room, there is a motivating message, “When words fail, music speaks”, with a variety of different instruments in the background!
From dinosaurs over 250,000,000 years ago to the recent victory of the Lionesses football team, this timeline is brimming with fascinating information. If you’re eager to learn more, simply head to the main stairs! One highlight we particularly cherish is the establishment of Surbiton High School in 1884, a significant moment in history.
Mrs Sullivan’s Interview
Why did you decide to do the wall art?
Mrs McCabe-Arnold invited teachers to brainstorm creative ideas to make our School even more vibrant and engaging, and we believed that it would be a wonderful opportunity to exhibit all the things we learn at the Girls’ Prep School as well as fascinating historical insights.
Were all the teachers involved?
Each year group enthusiastically shared the fascinating topics that they explored throughout the year. This not only highlighted the exciting subjects our pupils dive into but also gave younger pupils a glimpse into what lies ahead.
How long did it take to design this wall art?
The wall art design was a labour of love that took time and dedication. The idea first came to life two years ago and finally came into action last term. Our committed staff worked tirelessly on it every week, even dedicating time during the winter holidays to bring this vibrant vision to reality!
What do you think of the wall art?
We are all incredibly pleased with the effort everyone has put into it and are excited for future generations to see it!
Did you learn anything new when creating the timeline?
As I explored various ancient civilisations, I discovered that one of the oldest known cultures to exist is that of the First Nations peoples.
