Classics Trip

Pupils from Year 9 to Year 13 recently returned from a highly successful Classics trip to Italy, where they had the opportunity to explore some of the most significant historical and archaeological sites in the country.

The group began their journey in Rome, where they visited a number of iconic landmarks including the Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill. These ancient sites provided an enriching backdrop for the pupils to deepen their understanding of Roman history and culture.

Following their time in the capital, the group travelled to Sorrento, allowing them to explore key archaeological treasures in the Naples area. The pupils visited the renowned sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum, both of which were remarkably preserved by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. These locations offered a unique glimpse into the lives of the ancient Romans.

The trip also included an excursion to Paestum, where the pupils had the opportunity to marvel at the magnificence of the Greek temples. The visit to this UNESCO World Heritage site provided an insight into the influence of Greek civilisation in Italy.

The Classics trip was a wonderful success, offering Surbiton High School pupils an unforgettable experience that brought the ancient world to life.
