On Wednesday 31 January, our school was transformed into the school of wizardry and witching: Hogwarts, to celebrate the much-anticipated Harry Potter night. Runcie Hall, which is usually our lunch hall, was converted into The Great Hall of Hogwarts, complete with the posters of the four houses: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff and Slytherin. We had our own sorting ceremony where each girl had to pick their coloured tokens representing their houses from the Sorting Hat: red for Gryffindor, blue for Ravenclaw, yellow for Hufflepuff and green for Slytherin!
Throughout the evening, we had a chance to attend various magical classes ranging from concocting potions, learning spells, performing scientific experiments, participating in scavenger hunts and crafting magical bookmarks.
All of us were dressed in our Harry Potter attire, including our teachers. Mrs Goligher was Professor Goligher and Mrs Fraser was Professor McGonagall.
The KS2 girls had a wonderous journey into the enchanting world created by JK Rowling for a couple of hours.
Sophia S in 6S (Ravenclaw) remarked: “I loved everyone’s costumes, the activities were so much fun and engaging, especially bookmark making, and I thought they had a very fair way of sorting girls into houses.”
Rachel in 6H (Gryffindor) said, “I liked it when each house was chanting a chant and making up rhymes about how the other houses would lose the competition and Griffindor would emerge victorious.”
Maia in 5F (Gryffindor) commented on it being a superbly organised magical evening filled with potions, spells and treasure hunts – one which she will never forget!
We are very grateful to our teachers and organisers who worked tirelessly to make this night unforgettable for us and can’t wait for the next extraordinary event our school has in store for us.
In conclusion, our Harry Potter night was an absolute triumph!
