On Tuesday, a Surbiton High School team, made up of Rawan (Y11), Sophie (Y10), Esme (Y9) and Taranom (Y9) travelled to St. Paul’s School to compete against twelve other schools from the southeast in the Royal Society of Chemistry 2023 Top of the Bench competition.
This is an annual national Chemistry competition designed to inspire excitement about chemistry in pupils – whoever they are, wherever their skills currently lie, with participating schools entering one team of four students (two Year 9s, one Year 10 and one Year 11).
During the evening, our team drew on their Chemistry knowledge and experience to complete challenging practical and written tasks but left excited about what chemistry can offer. We would like to offer our warmest congratulations to these pupils who demonstrated excellent teamwork and performed very well against the clock, especially when confronted with new and demanding material.
We hope we will be able to enter a team next year to give our pupils the chance to see chemistry in a new light and put practical and teamworking skills into action.
