Senior School Diwali Celebrations 2023

Posted: 9th November 2023

Lights, lanterns and laughter were collectively encapsulated at Surbiton High School’s Diwali Celebration on Friday 3rd November. The sound of the traditional South Indian dhol echoed the walls of Mary Bennett House’s Ground Floor, welcoming all pupils to the festival of light and instilling inner victory of light over darkness.

The infamous Elite Drummers incited the many pupils who attended, magically assisted by Ms Rowan and Ms Brennan who played an outstandingly stellar role in teaching the pupils traditional Punjabi Bhangra dance moves which not only enthused the pupils but educated and empowered them. A particular highlight was watching individual pupils proudly take centre stage alongside staff to showcase the very movements their ancestors would have danced to; smiles, laughter, and light were in abundance. Upon reflection, the celebration united pupils from all backgrounds, truly magnifying the sense of community that already so proudly exists within Surbiton High School.

Wishing staff and pupils a very Happy Diwali on Sunday 12th November.
