What a week it was! The sun shone, our wonderful pupils sang, and a taste of multiple, culturally diverse “homes” was in the air. The week dawned with our French, German and Spanish karaoke and, fortunately for everyone, the weather was fantastic which meant that it could take place outside in the quad.
Voices resonated throughout the school and the lively singing could be heard from the furthest corner of the main building. Pupils enjoyed singing in the different languages that they learn in school and spontaneously burst into a long and winding conga that wheeled around the playground.
On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, we relished the French, German and Spanish breakfasts respectively. As ever, our treat-hungry pupils turned up en masse to devour pains au chocolat, croissants, crêpes, pretzels, madeleines, ensalmaidas, Lebkuchen, Schweine Ohren and magdalenas.
Everything flew off the table faster than a galloping horse and we even managed to make a small profit which has been donated to Macmillan Cancer Support – definitely a win-win!
On Tuesday at lunchtime, pupils took part in a range of activities including spot the MFL teacher as a baby (!), identify and remember the regions of Spain and put them on a blank map, el rabo del toro, la moustache du monsieur, l’arbre à friandises amongst a host of other entertaining and fun games that brought out everyone’s inner child.
Definitely to be repeated next year.
Friday was a particular highlight and Year 7 pupils delighted us by coming to school dressed in a costume relating to their home culture. As ever, costumes were intricate, delicate, colourful and worn with immense pride. It really was a fantastic week and one that will be celebrated throughout the year on our MFL noticeboard. Huge thanks to everyone who was involved and here’s to 2024!
