London Schools Ski Championships

Posted: 5th July 2023

Last weekend saw the ski team at Welwyn Garden City for their final race of the year, the London Schools Champs.

This year it was split over the 2 days with the Prep skiers racing on the Saturday and the Senior teams on Sunday.

Each race is then split into two sections to accommodate advance racers and those competing for the first time, which give us an excellent opportunity, as running the largest school ski programme in the country, to allow more pupils to compete.

We entered 2 teams in to the prep races made up of the following pupils:

A Team – Jolie W, Gigi D, Isabella W and Phoebe C

B Team – Katherine B, Emily L, Mia LV, Eleanor E (first time racing for school)

Support for those racing for the first time from their peers was excellent, truly fantastic team work.

As Surbiton Girls Prep all came away with some silverware:

  • A team, overall winners and dual slalom winners, with Jolie picking up 3rd individual.
  • B team 2nd in their dual slalom knock out races.
  • Making Surbiton the overall school champions and fastest London school, once all of the points were added up.

Next day we went again, and again came away with some pretty impressive results.

Years 7-9: A team winners, B team third. 1st and 3rd individuals for Freya and Darcy

Years 10+ A team winners & B team 4th Clean sweep of individual medals for Ciara 1st, Charlotte 2nd and Jenna 3rd

Dual slalom; A team 2nd by the closest of gaps to Brentwood Boys school and the B team won the plate dual.

And again from the team point calculation Surbiton were the overall school champions and fastest London school.

Years 7-9:             A team – Freya T, Darcy D, Immy M, Saskia S

B Team – Talula E, Amy B, Emma L, Sophia C & Tamsin L

Years 10+             A Team – Charlotte V, Ella B, Ciara Mc, Jenna M

B Team – Elizabeth O, Amy-Rose E, Rose J, Lola E
