Year 8 Natural History Museum Trip

Posted: 14th October 2022

At the end of September, our Year 8 pupils visited the Natural History Museum in London for their ‘Natural World’ art projects. The Natural History Museum exhibits a vast range of specimens from various segments of natural history which enhanced the pupils’ knowledge of the natural world and enabled them to draw and sketch using different artefacts for reference and really developed their observational drawing skills as a result.

Pupils experienced an earthquake simulator, showing what it was like during the 1995 Kobe, Japan earthquake and were dazzled by the Museum’s collection of sparkling gems and raw minerals which included a 635-kilogramme iron meteorite that fell in Argentina in 1783, a 9,381 carat flawless blue topaz gemstone – the largest of its kind – and a wall display of many more meteorite specimens.
