Girls’ Prep Under 11 Gymnastics Success

Posted: 10th February 2022

On Sunday 6 February, the Under 11 Gymnastics Squad competed in the London Regional Floor and Vault competition. In the lead-up to the competition, the girls had been working so hard. All of the team were coming in for additional morning sessions and working hard to perfect their routines in their club training time.

Surbiton had two teams in the Under 11 competition; a girls team and a mixed team. The mixed team was made up of three of the Elite Squad girls and two Year 4 boys from the Boys’ Elite Squad.

Both teams started on vault; all of the gymnasts performed great vaults, showing good flight and landing.

After some waiting, the time came to compete on floor. Each member of the team had to perform a minute-long floor routine, including skills such as spins, leaps, balances and agilities. The team were nervous, but used their nerves in their performance to shine with character and style. After a long morning of competing and waiting, the results were in.

The girls’ team unfortunately didn’t receive a medal, but the whole team should be very proud of their performances.  The majority of the girls’ team had never competed for the School before in this format, so I am so proud of every single one of them.

The mixed team won first place, meaning that they have qualified to represent the London Regional National Finals in May 2022.

The team have worked so hard to get the results they did, and I am so incredibly proud of every team member on their improvement this half term, and their resilience and determination in training sessions. Well done, girls!

Next stop National Finals!
