National Poetry Day 2021

Posted: 7th October 2021

Surbiton High School celebrated National Poetry Day 2021 at lunchtime on Thursday 7th October. The theme for this year was ‘Choice’ and the students had been set the challenge to write their own poems in their English lessons to submit to the competition. A runner up and winner were then selected from the top poems across each year group, who shared their poems with the school during the celebration. The winners were: Amy (Year 7), Arabella (Year 8), and Catalina (Year 9). A huge congratulations to these students for their exceptional poems.

Students also had the opportunity to take part in our ‘Magnetic Poetry’ and ‘Washing Line Poetry’ challenges, and the work students had produced was read aloud for students and staff to enjoy. It was brilliant to see poetry come to life on the quad in a whole school celebration of the written word.
