Alumni Interview Skills Day

Posted: 12th July 2021

During the Interview Skills Day last week, Year 12 were invited to listen to seven of our alumnae as they shared their university and career experiences since leaving Surbiton High School.

Representation from Tik Tok, the Retail Jeweller, Sky, Carat, Deep Mind KindCodyGym and a doctor in anaesthesia meant we were able to showcase a variety of careers and job titles, some of which were unknown ten years ago.

A handle of the tips provided included the importance of networking and keeping in touch with contacts, feedback is always constructive, research the company and prepare for your interview and each CV must be tailored to a specific job role, start early to look for internships and finally, reflection is redirection.

We are blessed with an increasing bank of alumnae who are willing to offer their expertise and advice to our current pupils and look forward to offering more events over the coming year.

We are delighted to share the news that former pupil Kanako Hare has achieved a First in Land Economy at Cambridge University.

The remarkable story of Kanako is that when she joined Surbiton High School in Year 10 she could not speak English so she was quickly assigned to the Learning Enrichment Department to help her with English as an additional language. Furthermore, in the middle of Year 11 Kanako moved into the boarding house as her parents returned to Japan for work. She hastens to add that she enjoyed her time in the Boarding House.

Congratulations, Kanako!
