YEAR 1 VISIT WEST WITTERING

Posted: 24th June 2021

O we do like to be beside the seaside!

However, we have not been on this gorgeous trip to West Wittering since 2019, so we set off with some very excited Year 1s on Wednesday to complement our learning topic this term with a seaside experience.

For many of us it was our first school trip in over a year. Nevertheless, that does not excuse Miss Jurado sneaking a ‘ wiggly worm’ sweetie before we left Surbiton!

The sun shone, our buckets and spades were at the ready, and after a ‘Beach Safety’ introduction, the day was ours to cartwheel, make sandcastles and get messy by creating ‘sand angels, (sorry!)

Watching the girls play, listening to them discuss how collecting plastic from the beach helps save the environment, and digging a tunnel together was magical. The girls collected shells, wrote their names in the sand, and topped off the day by sitting on the breakers with a well-deserved ice lolly. We discovered seagulls love leftovers, and we were very vocal in scaring them away!

The girls were interviewed as they got on the coach and the highlights were:

“Making sand angels” – Anoushka

“Making the beach tidy” – Aanya

“I want to buy a beach hut so I can come here every day” Claudia

“Making sand angels” Clodagh and the whole of Year 1
