World Book Day Virtual Author Visit

Posted: 15th June 2021

World Book Day 2021 was not wearily balder-dashed by circumstances – Oh no! It was Whizz! Bang! Delightful, thanks to a virtual visit from acclaimed cli-fi author, Sarah Holding.

Cli-fi (climate fiction) is a brilliant way to get young people thinking about the environment while entertaining them. Holding’s SeaBean trilogy wonderfully merges science fiction, time travel and the climate crisis – all wrapped into a neat rollercoaster of thrilling adventure.

Year 7 were enthralled as our special guest described some of the scenarios within the books – no spoilers! – before giving illuminating insights into the process of writing: from inspiration to research to characterisation and even the process of publishing: the whole journey from brain-seed to bookshelf.

And that certainly fuelled the pupils’ insatiable thirst for information – they posed brilliant questions in a lengthy Q&A discussion and it was an inspirational and entertaining morning for everyone. The teachers loved it too!

We are hugely grateful to author, Sarah Holding, who very generously gave time out from her busy writing schedule free of charge to inspire our young readers and writers.

What a World Book Day it was!
