SURBITON HIGH PREP SCHOOLS’ CHRISTMAS ALBUM

Posted: 16th December 2020

What a better way to bring the joy of Christmas to the Boys’ and Girls’ Prep Schools than through a Charity Christmas Album?

All pupils across both Schools have worked hard this term to learn a tune to record in the Main Hall. These ranged from traditional Christmas songs like ‘Away In A Manger’, sung by the Year 3 Boys, to more modern hits like ‘A Child Is Born’, sung by the Year 5 Girls (pictured below).

Over the past two weeks, pupils in every year group experienced what it is like recording music in a studio. Mr Wright, our in-house Audio and Lighting technician, set up the Main Hall with microphones and recording equipment – it looked like Abbey Road! The pupils were in awe as they entered, excited to begin their recording session. They showed maturity and professionalism while recording, working to a tight schedule and having to be perfectly silent in between takes. Reception and Year 1 Boys were in their fantastic Nativity costumes as donkeys and shepherds, so really looked the part as they were singing!

On top of this recording being an amazing experience for our boys and girls, all donations received from the recordings will be going to our nominated Prep Schools’ charities this term: Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, the Royal Society for Blind Children, SportsAid, Kingston Churches Action on Homelessness, The Citizens Foundation and SPEAR. In a year when things have been so difficult for so many, we hope funds raised from this project will make a difference for people in need this Festive season.

The album is available for download now at https://www.trybooking.co.uk/WVF, just in time for the holidays!
