CHAMPIONS LEAGUE WIN THE SURBITON PREMIER LEAGUE

Posted: 11th December 2020

Sometimes in life, all good things must come to an end, and this is no exception for the Surbiton Premier League.

It has been a major talking point on the school playground, out on the school gates and even in the staff room!  The boys have shown great leadership, collaboration and resilience throughout this half of term to ensure that their team finishes top of the league and be crowned ‘Surbiton Premier League Champions 2020’.

The PE Department are proud of every boy and team who have made this a league season to remember.  Year 5 were the first to conclude their season with The Pigs going unbeaten throughout and a final day victory against the Red Army to ensure that the trophy went back home with them.  Within Year 6, Lions FC were crowned champions.  They were very worthy winners who showed great consistency throughout warm-up, training drill and matches which is a sign of true champions. Liverpool FC in Year 4 took the trophy back to Avenue Elmers after a very exciting final fixture which was enjoyed by not just the players but staff and the rest of the boys.  Finally, but by no means last Champions FC. just held on despite some very resilient teams breathing down their necks, to win the Premier League in Year 3.

In conclusion, let me finish with a quote from Ex-Liverpool manager Bill Shankly who once said;

 ‘Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don’t like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.’

This is very fitting tribute to how all the boys played these past couple of weeks and fought tooth and nail to try and get their hands on this very coveted trophy.  Even with the gloom that this year has brought, the Surbiton Premier League has been a ray of light over Avenue Elmers, Charles Burney House and Hinchley Wood.
