In Year 5, we have been learning about thermal insulators. Linking it to energy loss in the home, the boys designed an experiment to test ‘what is the best thermal insulator?’.
Using materials such as bubble wrap, newspaper, cotton wool, felt, wood chip and silver foil, we measured the rate at which the temperature of the water in a test tube (which was surrounded by the insulator) dropped over a 20-minute period.
The results are being drawn up this week and a conclusion will be made very shortly!
