STARTING BIG SCHOOL | Surbiton High School

Posted: 14th May 2019

It’s a big change afoot in any household when children are about to embark on their first steps into school.

To help parents negotiate the journey and prepare, not just their children, but themselves as well, we welcomed Elaine Halligan from The Parent Practice, to provide us with her pragmatic and practical advice to ensuring children start a happy and positive life at school. A few of the highlights include:

– talk about school in a drip feed process

– set regular bedtimes

– encourage independence
– build confidence

– use emotion coaching

– praise positivity

– use descriptive praise to provide encouragement.
