Sports Day at Surbiton High Junior Girls’ and Boys’ Preparatory Schools - 25/06/2010

Yet another glorious sports day, the sun shone, the children ran and everybody had a great time.  Sports day seems to run better and better each year, the parental support was incredible, the staff did a wonderful job organising their classes and events, but it was the participants who made this day so special they gave everything in every event.

There were some astounding records set this year; Andrew Siu (Year 6) and Benedict Dunington (Year 6) smashed their own records, set last year, in the soccer ball and javelin events.  Jack Wilson (Year 6) broke his 50m sprint record, although Rhys Jones (Year 4) came extremely close to equalling it. Our younger children are also to be congratulated, they all performed well and it was obvious for all to see that we have some budding sports stars in our midst.

Helena Blyth beat her personal best running the 50m sprint in 8.25 seconds, Stephanie Mitchell (Year6) was close behind in second place with a time of 8.38 seconds and Natasha Clarke followed in third with a time of 8.57 seconds. A very close race! Yu Rae Kim smashed the Year 5 sprint record with a time of 8.89 seconds and Ellen Tattum (Year 4) ran a time of 9.02 seconds followed by Michaela Corbett (Year 4) with a time of 9.10 seconds. All brilliant times. Well done.

Special thanks must go to Mrs Aldous, Mr Ford, Miss Fox and Mr Peter Stirling and of course thank you to all the other members of staff who gave their time to contribute to the success of this event.
