Year 6 Surbiton High Boys’ Prep School visit Little Canada - 14/06/2010
Year 6 spent last week at Little Canada on the Isle of Wight with Mr Ferguson and Mr Ford, and although they all returned exhausted they had enjoyed a fantastic adventure. Here are some comments from the boys:
"Although the journey was long, it was well worth it. On the day we arrived we played games on the beach. We also looked for blue stones, which are unique to the Isle of Wight, I was lucky enough to find four. My favourite activity of the week was abseiling." Benjamin Moore
"In problem solving we started by doing some riddles with Wilco, our instructor, which most of us cracked in minutes, then I took over, telling riddles which took most of the group the rest of the week to work out. After that we went to do other activities around problem solving like the task where we had to get a tennis ball from a tree to a tin using gutter pieces, but we didn't have enough to just make one line so once the ball was off your stretch of gutter you would run round to the end of the line. Overall the trip to Little Canada was the best school trip I have ever been on (so far) and I hope to go on other trips like this."
George Stevens
"For outside climbing we took turns to climb up the wall and when we got to the top, abseil down. If we weren't climbing we had the job of holding the rope and tightening it when the climber went higher so that there was no chance of them falling. I really enjoyed the trip, my favourite activity was the tunnel trail because it was really fun and the instructor was really good." Alex Southall
"The trapeze is one of the most frightening but enjoyable experiences in PGL Little Canada. It's more or less a 30 foot pole in the ground which you climb up, then stand up on a tea tray sized platform, and finally you jump onto a bar four foot away from you, but it's when you stand on the platform and look down that is the most scary because the pole is shaking uncontrollably! Along with some other children, I managed to hold onto the bar in one out of two tries. The trapeze was probably my favourite activity. The Isle of Wight was a great trip, and if I go back in later years, I want to go for twice as long!" Andrew Siu
